影片的前期铺垫较长，但从第一次试图击毁彗星并失败开始，故事渐入佳境，从多个角度展开，展示了一个关于人性的故事，每个人物都在讲述自己的故事，每个人物都试图在这个故事中找到自己的位置，有成长，有虐心，有人性的弧光，最后的死亡也能让人感觉到生命的温度和力量，这些优点，也让影片更加的深沉。同时影片也有比较现实的部分，彗星上的剧情都很不错，但也充分的展示了这些人员准备的不够充分，在第一次失败后的抽签进入地下，也十分的写实，不过也依然会让人好奇，地球这么大，怎么就只有美国参与炸彗星呢？这也是美式电影的通病了。还有就是新闻主播女主的死，在结尾真的会有种白死了的感觉……

摆脱了肢体喜剧的创作模式，就博弈情节的趣味性而言，很像一部索德伯格电影。
